Band 7+ (complete overview): “Overall, while car usage remained the dominant transport method throughout the period, it declined steadily from 2020 to 2024, whereas public transport and cycling both saw consistent increases over the same timeframe.” — This names the dominant category, the direction of change for each, and does it in one sentence without listing every individual data point.

How to Build Your Own Overview in Under 2 Minutes

A reliable process for the IELTS Academic Task 1 Overview: first, identify the single most obvious feature of the data (the highest, the lowest, or the clearest trend). Second, identify one clear comparison or contrast between categories.
